Gable vents can serve two purposes in the look and function of your home. Functional gable vents allow the release of hot air that accumulates in the attic area of your home in the summer time. These gable vents also prevent moisture build up during the winter months because they keep the attic air circulated. Gable vents are also made to add decorative or character to a home and has no other purpose. Gable vents come in all different sizes and shapes depending on what look or function you need.

When a functional gable vent begins to deteriorate, it is often an inviting entry point for critters in your attic. You should inspect your gable vents each fall to ensure they are in good condition.

In the event you find some damage, most home improvement stores can order a new vent for your opening. These vents will be available in cedar, redwood or even a pvc.

You can visit the Awsco website to see what vents are available for your home.
