Is it time to replace some of the exterior trim on your home? Maybe years of neglect, have finally caught up. There are a wide selection of products available today. Here are five types that you can check out before you start your project. FYI...I have listed these trims in the order of pricing. (Least expensive to most expensive)

Western red cedar trim has been, and will continue to be one of the most popular exterior trims in our region.

Used to trim out windows, doors, fascia and soffit, it is very resistant to rot, but will require some maintenance through painting and caulking.

Redwood is usually the first wood that comes to mind when dealing with outdoor trim. It has a good history in the Cincinnati area and seems to still have a huge fan base from some of the old school carpenters.

The downside to redwood in our market today, is the large amount of sap wood in the product. It becomes more and more difficult to get the true heartwood, that gave the product it's reputation as one the the greatest rot resistant choices.

Hardie trim boards are a great option for exterior trim. It is available in various widths and comes 12' in length.

The product is a little harder to handle then wood. It is much heavier and can require special tools to cut. 

The end result is a good one. Just apply latex paint and the product will perform well for many years to come.

Boral Trim is a relatively new product to our region. This product made from fly ash and other polymers is an incredible product.

The product comes in 16' lengths in all of the normal trim widths you would expect. It's easy to carry and cuts just like a wood product.

The product can be painted with a latex paint and performs very well under our regions weather patterns.

Azek trim is an all PVC product that has been around for quite sometime now. It also comes in all the typical widths, but most places stock the boards in 18' lengths. 

The product comes prefinished white, but can be painted with a special PVC paint. 

The product does perform well in our market, but has the reputation for a lot of mom\movement once installed. The PVC will expand and contract with temperature change.
